I’m still not really sure what I’m doing for Sam’s family, but I have over a month! Plenty of time, right?

1. Learn how to crochet. Granny squares! I love them! And I really want to make a granny square infinity scarf. Plus whenever people say anything about crocheting I always say it seems so hard. I need to at least give it a try before I really decide. And granny squares!!

2. Knit socks with reinforcing thread. I don’t really like hand knit socks, but I really really hate socks with holes. Plus my parents both like hand knit socks and I want theirs to last as long as possible.

2. Use up at least 50% of the yarn I have with me. Most of it is sock/fingering weight, and we keep stopping at yarn stores, so that might be a little difficult, but I would really like it and I think Sam would too. And then I wouldn’t feel so guilty about getting the rest of my yarn.

4. Make some stitch markers. I have a lot of beads and I am constantly using rubber bands and safety pins because I only have like 4 real stitch markers.

5. Knit Christmas presents!! I have at least 4 hats and some coasters to knit, but probably more.

6. Start another sweater before January. I have two on the needles now (well three really, one has been hibernating a long time) and hopefully I can finish at least one of them by the end of the year.

7. Start trying out new techniques and try to memorize some. I only vaguely know how to provisional cast on, I just recently have the kitchner stitch cemented in my brain, but I really want to learn how to do it without a sewing needle. And other stuff like that.

I finished a hat, but didn’t take any pictures of it, but here’s a picture of the scarf I’m working on!

Sam and I are in Ashland, visiting some of his running friends. I’ve never been to Ashland before but it seems like a really nice place, and they have a yarn store!

Las night we decided to stay in and carve pumpkins. I always try to come up with something cool, but sometimes it backfires. Luckily this year my ball of yarn idea worked out well! I only had one little knife, so I was quite happy with how it turned out.

I picked Madelinetosh dk in grasshopper, which is a garishly bright radioactive green. I love it though!

I really like the shawl, but I have a hard time wearing it, because the opening is so big I think. So I tend to fidget with it a lot while I wear it. If I’m not wearing a sweatshirt I pull it over my shoulders like this sometimes:

And check out the sweet buttons I used! I stole this from an old gigantic sweater I found in our entry way closet. (I really wanted the whole sweater, but there was no way it was going to fit me, sadly. So I took the buttons instead)

I figured I would also post about a sweater I knitted this summer, because I really like it. It’s the Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig. I bought the yarn (Madelinetosh dk in Lichen) while I was in Denmark last fall, but I didn’t get around to knitting the sweater for a while. Per Liz’s advice, I only cast on a third of the stitches for the front, so that they wouldn’t be as droopy.

This was the sweater wasn’t as bulky in the front. (And I used less yarn, muhahaha!) This was my first top down sweater, and I really liked this construction. I have Barbara Walker’s book about knitting from the top down, and I have yarn that I want to knit a top down sweater from, so this was a nice introduction to that.

I was worried the yarn would pool and make it ugly, so I alternates skeins on the body. I’m really happy with how it knitted up though!

Right now I’m knitting Stephen West’s Clockwork shawl and this weekend I’m doing to do a top down sweater KAL with my BFF Mallory! She is going to knit the Rosamund cardigan and I’m going to knit the Featherweight Cardigan also by Hannah Fettig. I’m using Dream in Color Smooshy in Romeo Blue (for some reason, I haven’t taken pictures of the yarn for this sweater) and Gold Experience. I want to do a thick stripe of blue and a thin stripe of gold, but I’m not sure how I will do the buttonband part and I’m afraid I will run out of blue. So we’ll see what happens with that.

I thought it would be cool to make a hat with holes where your ears are, and then you could knit flaps to cover the holes. The flaps could be attached on the top or the bottom and then buttoned the rest of the way around or they could be not permanently attached at all. The idea is that then you can put your headphones on over your hat but it won’t compromise the sound, and you can still keep your ears warm. You might have to use short rows or something to make room for the headphones (depending on how big they are) and maybe the buttoned on flaps wouldn’t keep your ears very warm but I still want to try and make this. We’ll see if I go through with it or not.

Wow that seems like a lot of projects. And here is what I want to do before I leave:

But what I REALLY want to finish while I´m still in Denmark is this but tunic/dress length. I´m kind of obsessed with knitted dresses right now. I also really want to buy this kit and knit another dress, either in grå (grey), lys blå (light blue) or brun (brown). Or maybe a dark purple. Ahhh so many options.

Anyways, I´ve been abroad for about a month. (Actually, just over a month if I think about it!) I spent 2 weeks in England with the boyfriend and his sister and her boyfriend, and we visited various family members and family friends. We saw a lot of cool stuff and I took a lot of pictures, but then we got to Aalborg and my computer broke

Not going to lie, I was a littel devastated at first, but I´ve been using the computers in the library on campus and will hopefully get something figured out soon. I know that my hard drive is okay, which is what I was worried about the most, so that makes me feel a little better.

Anways, I´ll be in Denmark til sometime in December! I think I will keep posting in this blog, because I´ve been knitting a lot, but I will also be posting a lot about being here in my other blog so the two don´t get super mixed up. Onto knitting:
Since I have been here I have knit a Doublish in malabrigo sock, and 2 snail hats in some type of danish yarn. I have also worked on the sweater but fucked it up because it´s too big now, and soon I will finish my other leaf mitten. That´s about it. Oh and I started an Ishbel because I was upset, haha. I have some other yarn with me (thank goodness because I have lot sof spare time!) so I´m sure lots of other projects will get finished as well. I have pictures but don´t really have a way to post them.

I’ve also finished a mitten but I haven’t taken pictures of it yet and it’s still drying.

and a noro striped scarf!

So now I have a question. I am going to be gone potentially until Jan 31. Obviously I need to bring yarn/knitting, but how much? Sam says I won’t want to spend a lot of time knitting because I will want to do things with people, but I know I will be really bored and probably more stressed if I don’t have any knitting. I’m definitely going to bring all my WIPs, including the sweater I started awhile ago, but how much more yarn/projects would you bring?

The Dizzy Sheep is having a spin off sale where they just post a new deal as soon as the old one has sold out, and so far I have made 3 purchases

I got a Bag of Knit, which is a random mystery bag of yarn (super curious about what this will be!)

Then I got 4 skeins of classic elite fresco firefly to make this tank top in a slate blue/grey color.

Today I got two skeins of malabrigo sock!!! one in turner and one in primavera (I think). I will definitely be using one skein for a clapotis, but I’m not sure about the other, mayyyybe socks for the boyfriend but I’m not sure. (boyfriend if you are reading this don’t get your hopes up!)

I also order some O-wool yarn from someone destashing on Rav. I have 3 skeins of blue and 4 skeins of green, which is about 910 yards. I really want to make a v- neck cardigan, but I would like to do it top down, and I haven’t found any good patterns yet. And I’m not too sure about the striping, so suggestions would be helpful

I will probably update this more as the dizzy sheep sale keeps going on, just to keep track of what I have. Ha!
